WINALDO ARTARAYA SWASTIA studied film directing at Jakarta Institute of Art. He received full scholarship from the college and graduated with Cum Laude in 2010. He directed 6 shorts with film celluloid out of 14 short films in total, including ANGIN (AN ESSENCE OF WIND), the first fiction film in Indonesia depicting bhikkhu (monk) and Buddhism, which also gained nomination for Best Short Film in 2010 Indonesia Film Festival (FFI) and was screened on film festivals both inside and outside the country, namely Singapore and India. He became assistant director in numerous films, assisting the likes of Garin Nugroho and Hanung Bramantyo to name a few. He recently co-directed a feature film titled MOONCAKE STORY with Garin Nugroho which was released in February 2017, also directed KELUARGA BESAR and BANG BUNG, a sitcom for NET TV and a sketch series for Trans 7, respectively. Apart from making films, he writes fiction, mainly short stories. 14 of his short stories was published by Gramedia Pustaka Utama in 2014, titled “MEMORABILIA 8 FEBRUARI.” He is currently writing his first novel.
